Today’s News has it that the Federal Government told the reasons for the suspension of the monthly payment of its youth empowerment programme, N-Power.
Sadiya Farouq, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs on Disaster Management and Social Development has brought to own notice, which the delay in paying the monthly stipends is as a result of some verification process in the Ministry.
The Minister also discloses that they were out to understand and indicate the full list of the beneficiary that has been paid before she took over.
In her speech to the spokesmen, she stated that “I know we had a compliant in October while we just got NSIP into the ministry and we needed to understand the programme considering that it has been in existence before we came on board, so we needed to understand the whole system before we will start signing for a large amount of money and that was the reason for the delay”.
She also stated that it is quite unfortunate for them that the director who was overseeing the office of permanent secretary as at January, was replaced with a new permanent secretary.
The Ministry has also vowed to rigorously overhaul N-Power and other National Social Investment Programmes, NSIPs according to the speech made by Rhoda Ishaku Eliya who is the Assistant Director (information) in the Ministry.
Also, the Ministry is to note now and ensure maximum transparency, more prudent application of resources and greater efficiency.
