A soldier in the Nigerian Army has narrated his experience in the fight against the Boko Haram terrorist in the Sambisa forest. The soldier narrated how he ran out naked to fight the insurgent. Read below:
My name is Emmy Benson; I am from Oturkpo LGA in Benue State. I am 23 years old, and I am a personnel in the Nigerian Army; I am also a rapper. Immediately after my secondary school in 2014, I joined the Nigerian Army. My father and grandfather, where all soldiers, but it has nothing to do with my decision to join the military. My father never wanted me to join the army, he wanted me to be a banker, but because of my love to serve my fatherland (smile), I joined the army without his consent.
The war between Boko Haram and the Nigerian Army is not a child’s play. I will never pray to experience such a thing in my life again. The Nigerian military is a fearless organization.
We are passionate, strong, and prayerful, and that’s why we are winning the war against insurgency. I have seen war, faced more than 22 attacks at different points and locations, and I am ready to face it again as long as I am fighting for my country.
A few years back, I was taking my bath when Boko Haram attacked us; I ran out naked with my guns shooting and fighting. E no easy oo (Lolz). Some of my colleagues still laugh at me because of that incident.
So many persons want to join the army because they need a job and not because they want to fight for the country. The army is not an organization that will make you a millionaire. It is a place of selfless service.
You need to be passionate about it. Don’t join the army for the sake of having a job or for the sake of the power that comes with being a soldier. Do it because of your country and to make your family proud.
It is an honor to serve your fatherland.
