Subsequently, he was released a few months before the national conference that took place in 1991.

This conference gave room for multi-party politics in Central African Countries.

Jacques later worked with the elected president, Pascal Lissouba and became his Prime Minister between 1994 to 1996

Yhombi-Opango flew to exile in 1997 when the civil war broke out in Congo.

He later returned to the country in 2007 but was living between Congo and France due to his health challenges.
