The Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has today in his speech commended the European Union for the donation made to support Nigeria’s efforts at controlling the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, which is the sum of N21billion (€50million)
President Buhari was very excited and praised the EU body on Tuesday when he received the money; this was lead by Ambassador Ketil Karlsen, at Aso Rock Villa in Abuja.
In his speech, “the donation will go a long way in supporting Nigerian’s efforts at containing and controlling coronavirus to avoid further spread in the communities.”
He used this opportunity to sympathize with the EU-member countries and families who lost their loved ones as a result of this pandemic.
According to Ambassador Karlsen, this donation was made through the United Nations COVID-19 Basket Fund, and it is so far the highest and most significant contribution made by the EU outside Europe to the response in Nigeria.
He also stated that the payment of €1.2million to UNICEF and goods purchased would be shared soon among Nigerians soon
