The Executive Director of Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) on Wednesday said they had reached a concrete agreement with the FG to provide free electricity for the period of two-months to their customers nationwide.

According to Barrister Sunday Odunta, the Executive Director, Research and Advocacy at the Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributions (ANED), the decision was in recognition of the challenging effects of the coronavirus on the economic growth and daily activities of customers.

Oduntan said, “we are also completely aligned with the plans to make sure palliative measures, including free electricity supply to all Nigerians for two-months, to help make life easier during the period of lockdown.”

Electricity Distribution Companies have aligned themselves with the effort of the National Assembly and the Federal Government to mitigate the hardship that is currently disturbing their customers and Nigerian citizens.

Executive arm, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) are committed to working with them to ensure a more efficient power supply within the problematic period. The power firms reiterated their commitments to improving services delivery most, especially this period of COVID-19 pandemic.
