The trusted chief of staff to President Muhammadu Buhari has been confirmed dead.
Abba Kyari has died after battling with a severe complication of the coronavirus disease.
Kyari has been one of the most influential and powerful people in Nigeria due to his relationship with President Buhari. It is widely believed that Buhari trusts him so much.
It is widely believed that as a state governor, or ministers, you will have to go through Kyari before getting to meet the president.
The late chief of staff contracted the deadly virus while on an official trip to Germany in March. He tested positive on March 23 but was made public on March 30.
The death of Kyari is a big blow to the presidency as it leaves open a gaping hole in the administration.
Abba Kyari is one of the high profile politicians in Nigeria that have tested positive of the virus. Some others are Bala Mohammed (Bauchi State Governor), Seyi Makinde (Oyo State Governor), but both have recovered.
Nasir El-Rufai also contracted it but still in the intensive care unit
Completely out of any word, so devastating. It is indeed very hard on us, but I strongly believe that we all belong to Allah and to Him we shall return. May Allah accept Mallam Abba Kyari’s shahada, forgive all his shortcomings, and grant him Jannatul Firdausi. #RIPAbbaKyari pic.twitter.com/S1im9frLRe— Bashir Ahmad (@BashirAhmaad) April 18, 2020
