Who Is Charles M. Lieber?
Charles M. Lieber is an American chemist who was born on the 9th of April 1959 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. He got his education from Franklin & Marshall College and Stanford University,
He is a professor at Harvard University. He is a pioneer in nanoscience and nanotechnology.
Lieber has published over 400 papers in peer-reviewed journals and has edited and contributed to many books on nanoscience.
Thomson Reuters named him the leading chemist in the world for the decade 2000-2010 in 2011 as a result of his impact on scientific publications.
He has also received other awards in the field of science.
Why Was He Arrested?
Charles Lieber was arrested on the 28th of January, 2020. He was arrested on charges of making false statements to the U.S. Department of Defense and Harvard investigators regarding his participation in China’s Thousand Talents Program. A program that has been criticized and deemed as a threat to national security.
This program aims at giving the Chinese government access to research works of foreign scientists and handsomely rewarding the scientists financially.
Yesterday evening I saw a video going viral on Whatsapp about an American chemist who was arrested for selling the Coronavirus to Wuhan University in China. This video made me pay more attention and made me put on my researcher kits, in order to ascertain if the video is real or not.
I had to watch the video over and over again to get the message in it. The video only talks about the arrest of Charles Lieber for his failure to give U.S. government full information about the funding he is getting from Wuhan. It never mentions coronavirus. But the video has writing above it that says what the video didn’t say.
To be honest, most people will fall for it because I also did. The video is easy to believe because Wuhan was mentioned; lots of money was mentioned, and it also involved an arrest. But to what end, why will someone make an old video look like a new one and attached false information to it. This is misleading.
