The Federal Government said all the rice it distributed to states where certified to be fit and suitable for human consumption.

This was made known by Hajiya Sadiya Farouq, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Social Development, and Disaster Management, while addressing newsmen.

She also pointed out that the rice was accessed by NAFDAC and was considered fit for consumption before it was sent out.

In her words, “we all know if we keep grain or rice for a while, it changes color, but that doesn’t mean it’s not fit for human consumption.”

The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has accused the federal government of intentionally sending rice that was contaminated to the state.

Meanwhile, the governor has sent the three trailer containing about 1,800 bags of rice back to the federal government.
