17 Chinese men have been arrested for doing what is considered illegal work with no form of authority given.
The report was given that 27 miners that include 17 Chinese and ten locals have been arrested, including the high chief that was alleged to have known about the incident in Osun state, after an investigation and a report from the Joint Task Force about an illegal operation going on in the community.
The Chinese men were arrested following the sting operation spotted around the Ilesa and Ife axis of Osun state.
The Joint Task Force (JTF) was recently inaugurated and was giving a heads up as they swung into action.
The Governor’s Deputy Chief of staff, Mr. Abdullahi Binuyo, make it clear during his speech that no responsible government would watch its land degenerated by unknown and unauthorized persons and won’t react immediately.
He further noted that apart from the effect of economic leakages, all those arrested has flouted the state government directives to stay at home. Also their activities are considered as pollution to Osun river with the use dangerous and poisonous metals which will make the water unsafe for human consumption and irrigation.
Mr. Binuyo seriously emphasized that the state government should ensure those arrested are prosecuted according to the law and not just that, they should be asked to pay a compensation fee for any form of damages that might have been incurred.
