Mohamed Ben Omar, the Nigerian Labour Minister, has died, his party said that without stating the cause of his death.
He died at Capital Niamey’s main hospital on Sunday, and His social Democratic Party confirmed his death via Whatsapp chats.
Niger has a total 750 confirmed cases of Coronavirus, with 35 deaths and 518 discharged.
President Mahamadou Issoufou said he learned the news of Omar’s death with a “heavy heart.”
Omar was born on 1st January 1965 at the South-central towns of Tesker, which he founded the PSD, and that allied with Issoufou’s Party for Democracy and Socialism.
Omar begins his Political life in 1999 under president Mamadou Tandja.
He served in various ministerial roles and parliaments in the impoverished Sahel nation; he strongly supported and fought for a constitutional amendment that allowed Tandja to prolong the second term by three years in 2009.
A military junta overthrew Tandja in the following month.
Before he created and made the PSD a reality, he was part of the Rally that brought Democracy and Progress, the party of Tandja’s predecessor Ibrahim Bare Mainassara.
Mainassara who was assassinated in 1999 by members of his own bodyguard.
