Ebonyi State Governor, Chief Engr. Dave Nweze Umahi, after a few weeks of a total ban on the religious gathering in the state, has lifted the said ban.

It was contained in a press statement signed by Uchenna Orji, the state commissioner for information; he stated that the governor’s decision was based on a passionate appeal made by the Christian Association of Nigeria Leader, Ebonyi state chapter and other religious bodies in the state.

He further stated, that the reopening of the worship places will be under strict observance of COVID-19 policy and State Laws, and having prayerfully reviewed the request. In consultation with state Governor, he hereby directs that all religious places to be open for the worship once a week effective from 15th May 2020.

He warned that all church service should observe their worship only on Sunday between the hours of 9 am to 11 am. Muslims and other religious faithful that worship on Friday and Saturday should observe their worship between 9 am to 11 am on the respective days.

He, however, noted that no religious worship centers should permit more than 500 worshipers and should make sure a minimum of 2 meters social distancing from each other.

Governor Umahi further stated that the COVID-19 policies be observed strictly at the worship centres. Wearing of face mask, and regularly washing of hands and use of hand sanitizers.
