Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, a 75-year-old man, has been appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari as his new Chief of Staff (COS) to replace late Mallam Abba Kyari, who kicked the bucket on April 17, 2020.

It was gathered by Infoxclusive that the selection of Gambari was not an easy one.

The choice came after the presidency screened over 14 aspirants, which include both serving ministers and political associates of President Buhari.

It was learned that most of the candidates where qualified, but the choice of Gambari came because of his rich academic, international diplomacy, and public service background.

His political disposition was also one of the significant things that made him stand out of the crowd because the office needed someone who will not allow the office to be dragged into partisan politics.

“Gambari does not belong to any of the group struggling for the post of the COS, he was not scheming for the office, this made him unique,” a top presidential source said.

It was also gathered that the quest for late Abba Kyari’s replacement had caused division among some associates of the president.

“The President had to look outside his cabinet when the struggle became too intense. He needed someone who has no political interest in 2023. The president needed a strong and well-focused personality, that was why he settled for Gambari.” The source revealed.

Gambari served as a former Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and also a Minister of External Affairs in 1984 and 1985 during the military era of President Buhari as head of state.

We hope that Gambari will not behave like late Abba Kyari in that position.
