In Ogun state, a pregnant woman who was in labour died today after being allegedly delayed by police officers for not putting on face mask as directed by the state government.
This happened at the waterside local government of Ogun state.
According to reports, the deceased, Waidat Adsedeji, went into labour and was being rushed on a motorcycle by her child to the Ita-Otu General hospital when they were stopped by the policeman at Sowore checkpoint. The policeman inquired why they were not putting on face masks and also fails to maintain social distancing as ordered by the state governments.

It was gathered that the police allegedly delayed the motorcyclist for many hours before allowing them to go. The pregnant woman was reported dead a few minutes after they were released by the policeman.
Youths in the area blamed the police officer for the death of the pregnant woman. As a way of protest, they took her corpse and dumped it at the Abigi Divisional Police Headquarters.
Confirming the incident to Tribune, the spokesperson of the state police command, Abimbola Ovevemi, denied the claim that the policeman was not responsible for the death of the pregnant woman.

“our officers were not the cause for the death of the pregnant woman. There were three occupants on the motorcycle as against the directive of the state government that only two people should occupy a motorcycle at a time. They were stopped and were asked why there fail to keep the sit at home order as directed by the state government; they told our men that the woman was in labour and was being taken to the hospital for delivery, and have noticed that the woman in pains and our men let them go,” he said.
