The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has reacted to the video and pictures regarding the availability of new N5,000 and N2,000 in circulation. Calling it false and fake and advising members of the public to disregard such videos.

The Apex bank made this know in a tweet published on its tweeter handle @cenbank Sunday 31 May 2020. The bank advised members of the public to report anyone found in possession of such banknote to the law enforcement agents.

The CBN tweet read:
It would be recalled that the immediate past CBN governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi planned to introduce the new N2,000 and N5,000 Naira notes, which was approved by the then government of Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

The idea which was meant to have the higher denominations produced in a few quantities and for heavy cash users according to the then government died upon negative reactions from economic experts and the general public.
