The Federal Government, under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, has on Monday declared Friday, June 12th, 2020, a public holiday, to mark this year’s Democracy Day.

Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola, the Minister of Interior, made this known in a statement made by Georgina Ehuriah, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry.

The Minister congratulated all Nigerians at abroad and home for the entrenchment of democratic rule in the Nation.

He commended the fighters and heroes of democracy for their dogged determination and sacrifice made that eventually birthed democratic governance in Nigeria.

Minister Aregbesola urged Nigerians to continue to uphold the selfless efforts of the heroes and collaborate with the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to ensure the realization of the democratic ideals at all costs.

He assured Nigerians of the government’s commitment to battling the effect of COVID-19.

Aregbesola further advised citizens to take responsibility to curb the spread of Coronavirus by observing physical distancing and obeying other regulations issued by relevant authorities.
