Nigeria former Finance Minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has emerged as the Director-General, World Trade Organization, WTO.
Iweala emerged the winner after 104 member countries out of 164 voted for her to defeat her opponent, South Korea’s trade minister, Yoo Myung-hee.
With the development, Okonjo-Iweala has become the first African and first female to occupy the office.
Recall that 79 countries supported her candidature. In a virtual press conference last Friday, she said the 55-man African Union, AU, officially endorsed her over her South Korea opponent, Yoo Myung-hee
