President Muhammadu Buhari held a video conference with the President of the European Council, Mr. Charles Michel.
Mr. Charles stated that Europe strongly supports Nigeria’s Dr. Okonjo-Iweala as the incoming Director-General of the World Trade Organization, WTO.
The President is leading the charge of Nigeria for Okonjo-Iweala, the former Minister of Finance, to become the first black and female DG of WTO.
President Buhari appreciated the European Council for supporting Nigeria’s candidate.
Also discussed were the issue of debt relief for Africa, recharge of Lake Chad, and EU-African relations.
Lake Chad, which has currently decreased to less than one-third of its normal size, has thrown over 130 million people who depend on it for their livelihood into dire straits.
Nigeria’s President had canvassed for the Lake Chad basin at the difference for an in recent times globally.
President Buhari appreciated Mr. Michel for the positive developments expected on the issues raised and discussed.
