Jeffery Toobin, a star reporter, working with the New Yorker magazine has been fired after he exposed himself naked on a camera during a staff Zoom call.
The 60-year old journalist, who also is a senior legal analyst for CNN, confirmed that he had been sacked on his verified Twitter page.
His tweet read: “I was fired today by @NewYorker after 27 years as a Staff Writer. I will always love the magazine, miss my colleagues, and will look forward to reading their work.”
On October 15, during a video zoom call, Toobin was seen by his senior colleagues masturbating, while on another call.
The incident happened during an election simulation between the New Yorker and WNYC radio. The magazine immediately suspended Mr Toobin.
In a statement narrating the incident, he said: “I made an embarrassingly stupid mistake, believing I was off-camera.
“I believed I was not visible on Zoom, I thought no-one on the Zoom call could see me. I thought I had muted the Zoom video.”
The election simulation involved prominent New Yorker figures playing politicians such as incumbent President Donald Trump and his rival, Joe Biden of the Democratic party. Mr Tobin was representing the courts in the simulation.
During a break in proceedings, Mr Toobin was seen on camera, touching his penis as he appeared to be on a different video call.
