A military court-martial in FCT, Abuja has convicted Major-General Olusegun Adeniyi, who is the former Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, over a leaked video that showed poor conditions of Nigerian soldiers and challenges advancing into the dreaded Alagarno forest area.
The video clip of Major-General Olusegun Adeniyi addressing troops and briefing his boss went viral in March.
He was then moved to the Nigerian Army Resource Centre in FCT, Abuja, and subjected to a court-martial alongside his aide, Tokunbo Obanla.
While delivering judgment on Monday, the tribunal found Major-General Olusegun Adeniyi guilty of violating social media guidelines and ruled that he be demoted by at least three years.
It also found Obanla guilty and sentenced him to 28 days in jail with hard labour.
Obanla, who Major-General Olusegun Adeniyi, said was in possession of his handset at the time of the incident, reportedly admitted to posting the video on social media in error.
Both convictions are subject to confirmation by the military board before they can take effect.
