Boko Haram Terrorist group in Trouble as Nigerian Air Force acquires another Mi-171E fighter chopper

A second Mi-171E helicopter acquired by the federal government of Nigeria from Serbia has been delivered to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).

The Ilyushin 76 Strategic Airlifter brought it touched down at NAF Base Makurdi at 3.15 pm on Wednesday.

The Air Vice-Marshal Olusegun Philip, Air Officer Commanding Tactical Air Command, received the new aircraft on behalf of Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, the Chief of the Air Staff.

Director of Information, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, said a team of Nigerian Air Force personnel and technical support staff from the equipments vendor offloaded it.

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) officials were on hand to ensure necessary documentation.

Ibikunle Daramola also noted that the Mi-171E is the second aircraft purchased by President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

In total, Nigeria has acquired 23 new aircraft since 2015.

“The new aircraft will undoubtedly boost NAF’s contributions in the fight against insurgency, armed banditry, and other criminal activities in the country,” the spokesman added.

The Mi-171E is a multi-purpose and advanced, helicopter produced by Ulan-Ude Aviation Plant, a part of Russian Helicopters.

It can be deployed in disaster response, forest fire-fighting,  search-and-rescue (SAR) missions, and also medical assistances.

The helicopter has two enhanced VK-2500-03 engines; each develops a contingency power of 2,700hp and a take-off power of 2,400hp.

The helicopter is equipped with upgraded transmissions, Safir auxiliary power plant, and internal fuel tanks.

The Mi-171E flies at a maximum speed of 250km/h, have an operational ceiling of 6,000m, and can function in temperatures ranging between 50°C and -50°C.
