END SARS: Tension in Calabar as security agents flood streets over rumours of attack

Tension in Calabar, the capital city of Cross River State as security operatives including Nigeria Soldiers, Civil Defence, Police, and other security operatives stormed the streets, covering strategic locations.

On Monday, the report states that the security operatives were deployed to the eleven-eleven roundabout along Marian Road, Calabar Road, Freedom Park, government establishments, and other places suspected to be flashpoints of attack on innocents Nigeria.

There are rumours across Calabar that some criminal elements outside the state were planning to attack and cause mayhem, vandalize government infrastructures and steal valuables under the auspices of the #End SARS protest.

DSP Irene Ugbo, on Monday,  When contacted, said the deployment of security operatives was to tame hoodlums who are planning to attack and invade the state under the name of #End SARS protests.

“For now, there is no protest of any kind in Cross River state; our men and other security agencies have been deployed to major roads, streets, flashpoints, and strategic locations, and we are ready for any eventuality

“All that you have seen are strategies put in place by CP Abdulkadir Jimoh, the Commissioner of Police, to prevent any occurrence. We are ready for any eventuality; if you look around, you will see those police officers and other security agents are on red alert.

“The State Government has just given us some vehicles and other logistics, and these items have been deployed for effective use. Our men and other agencies are there to maintain peace and order,” She explained.
