On Friday, the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics released a 2020 Transport Watch Report with a significant increase in transport fares across the country.
According to the report, in 2020, motorcycle ride prices in Nigeria, popularly known as Okada, increases to over 120% more.
The average rate for intracity bus journey also increased by 74% year on year, while inter-city and airfare also increased by 36% and 18% respectively.
Average Okada ride fare jumped from N125.5 in 2019 to N276.28 in 2020.
It would be recalled that the federal government announced the withdrawal of subsidy on PMS, which has led to an increase in the pump price of petroleum products.
Also, the COVID-19 compliance guidelines of reductions in the number of passengers on a bus led to some increase in rates of transportation, including air transport.
