Biafra National League, BNL, has sent a message to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt-General Ibrahim Attahiru, asking him to cease operations in Essien Udim, Akwa Ibom State due to the alleged killing of policemen and soldiers by hoodlums.

DAILY POST has earlier reported tension that arose in the Local Government of Akpabio, Essien Udim, Akwa Ibom State as some suspected hoodlums attacked some police operational vehicles and military men that were on patrol in the area.

The gunmen who numbered over 50 were protesting against the LG Chairman but turned to attack the military men and police officers sent for peace-keeping.

A police source said the driver of the Hilux was burnt with the vehicle, and one CSP Benedict Okoh Ajide who led the squad to the LG was hit by the hoodlum’s bullet.

Due to the incident, the residents of the area all fled from their communities following bombardment from the military.

The Biafra National League in a statement signed by its Deputy National Leader, and head of operations, BBS Media, Ebuta Akor Takon, said the military operations in the communities were alarming and could lead to attacks elsewhere to escalate.

The group warned that just as the use of force has destroyed so many nations, it could also consume Nigeria.

Takon alleged that “The attackers of the military have gone into hiding and the army has turned their guns on innocent residents,” the group’s statement said.

“The problems in the South East and part of South-South should be handled with care as revolt may worsen.

“Cameroon has become a war zone because the government failed to apply dialogue to deal with succession issues.

“[We] asked the army to vacate major roads in Bakassi area of Nigeria where the army is conducting stop and search.”
