During the trial of the suspended Vice-Chancellor of the University of Zimbabwe, Levi Nyagura, a third witness told the court that Grace Ntombizodwa Mugabe, the former first lady was a ghost student and appeared nowhere.
The then chairman of the Department of Sociology and senior lecturer, Dr. Watch Ruparanganda, said he doesn’t know Mugabe and neither does she know him.
“Some of the duties of my board was to ensure that the enrolment of the students is in accordance with the regulations.”
“I don’t even know Grace Mugabe and even if she was here she wouldn’t have known me, she just appeared from nowhere, and it was through the grapevine that I heard that she was graduating with a Ph.D. degree,” he said.
Dr. Ruparangada stated further that Mugabe was a ghost student because the board does not have any knowledge of her and the topic she was researching.
“As the board, we were supposed to have known her qualifications to avoid enrolling standard six students.”
“Mugabe was supposed to have seen me as the chairman like what other candidates like Thokozani Khupe did,” he said.
Dr. Ruparangada stated that Professor Nyagura knew very well that one needs a Ph.D. to supervise a candidate seeking such certification, but he decided to chose his unqualified friend to supervise the ghost student.
“No records of Grace could be found that she really spent 6 years in the school nor could anyone including her colleagues who were involved in this buzz recall who she was then and now.”
“She went through the school without anyone’ s notice nor record, no one could even recall her coming for admission in the school.”
Evidence and everything show that Grace Ntombizodwa is a ghost.
