INFOXCLUSIVE gathered that there is panic buying going on in Awka, Anambra state as families are buying foodstuffs to stock their homes due to the Indigenous People of Biafra Sit-At-Home order.

IPOB, which holds a yearly sit-at-home, in honour of those killed from the southeast since the struggle for Biafra freedom, has stated that the event this year will hold on Monday to enable people to go to church on Sunday.

However, rumours are being spread on the streets that the event starts from Sunday night till Monday night, and these have sent people into panic buying.

The leader of IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has warned that anyone found outside in the southeast and south-south region will be seriously dealt with.

On a visit to the Eke Awka market, a major market that serves both the capital of Anambra state and its environs, we find residents buying food items that can last them till Monday, 31st May.

A resident of Awka, Mrs. Blessing Obasi said, “I’m buying foodstuffs for my family, which will serve us until after Monday. This shopping would have been tomorrow (Sunday), but it fell on Sunday, and there won’t be any market tomorrow.”
