Minister survives assassination attempt; daughter and driver killed

The minister for works and transportation, General Katumba Wamala was attacked on Tuesday morning June 1, by four riders who opened fire on the car and succeeded in killing General Wamala’s daughter Brenda Nantongo Wahala and driver Haruna Kayondo.

Reports reported the killers trailed Gen. Katumba’s vehicle with reg. number H4DF 2138 before opening fire on them.

The Army spokeswoman Brigadier Flavia Byekwaso confirmed the incident and said that the General was just wounded and has been taken to the hospital but his daughter was killed alongside with his driver

According to local media, General Wamala has enjoyed a distinguished career. Before appointment as the minister for works and transportation by President of Uganda President Yoweri Museveni in December 2019, after he had served as the chief of defence Forces (2013-2017) in the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF).

Adding, Brenda had just returned from the US. She only started working recently,” said Joyce Ssentongo, an in-law to Gen. Wamala.

Ssentongo described the slain daughter as a humble girl who had a whole bright future ahead of her.
