Abubakar Malami, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice has issued an order that anyone who didn’t obey the Federal Government ban on Twitter should be arrested and prosecuted.
The directive is contained in a statement issued by his spokesman, Umar Gwandu.
After the Federal Government ban the use of Twitter, Nigerians opted to use Virtual Private Networks, VPN, in a bid to use the platform.
A V P N is a key path for digital anonymity.
However, Malami instructed the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation, DPPF, at the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice to immediately commence the prosecution of those who violate the order of the Federal Government.
“Mr. Malami directed the DPPF to liaise with the Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy, National Communication Commission, NCC, and other relevant government agencies to ensure the speedy prosecution of offenders without any further delay,” it added.
