Mr. Chibuike Okafor, an Anambra-based cattle dealer, has cried out that he has lost over 50 cows in the recent slaughter of cows by Igbo youths agitating against Fulani Herdsmen in their region.
Mr. Chibuike made this known on Tuesday to newsmen through the Secretary to the Government of Anmabra State, Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu. According to him, the most cows in the South-East are owned by Igbo businessmen.
He further alleged that over 50 of my cows were set ablaze by angry youths at Kwata junction, Akwa, Anambra State.
Chibuike insisted that it was very wrong for the angry mob to believe that all the cows coming from North to the Southern part of Nigeria belongs to Northerners and must be destroyed, without any serious reason.
His words: “Your Excellency, I would want to tell you that almost all, if not all, the cows you see in the South-East are owned by Igbo traders. What happens is that if we go there to buy the cows, we use the vehicles owned by the Northerners to bring them down here. Even some of us have our vehicles for the transportation of these cows to South-East” .
“We’ve had a long-time cordial relationship with them in this business; it would be wrong for our people to have the wrong impression about the Northerners. They are good people generally speaking, especially in business”, he further said.
The state Secretary while responding ensures the protection of every Nigerian in Anamabra State.
The discussion was held few days after angry youths set ablaze a truck full loaded with cows, transporting from North to the southeast region.
The youth became destructive after the truck in question killed eight persons in an accident.
