The newly appointed Chief of Army Staff, Major- Gen. Farouk Yahaya, has been told by the House of Representatives that Nigeria is overwhelmed by insecurity.

In addition the House of Representatives ordered Major- Gen. Farouk Yahaya to put a stop to the insecurity ravaging the country.

The order was given to Gen. Farouk Yahaya during his screening and confirmation by the Joint House Committees on Defense and Army, which was headed by Babajimi Benson, who represents the Ikorodu federal district in Lagos State, and Abdulrazaq Namdas, who represents Adamawa State.

It was President Buhari who chose Major- General Farouk Yahaya to succeed Late Lt. General Ibrahim Attahiru, who died in a plane crash in Kaduna State.

Babajimi Benson, who spoke representing the committees, also told Yahaya that the struggle against insurgency in the northeast had cost the country a lot of money and many lives.

Babajimi Benson said, ” This exercise comes at a very tough time in the history of our great country, Nigeria. “

” Our country has been besieged by a variety of security challenges spanning all geopolitical zones, with banditry, militancy, and self- secessionists taxing our military to the limit.

” The worst is the North- persistent East’ s insurgency. The country has suffered greatly as a result of this war, both financially and in terms of human lives. This must come to an end.

” The Nigerian Armed Forces must take inventive approaches to reduce the number of people killed and property destroyed as a result of instability.

” I therefore hope that, if approved, the future Chief of Army Staff will collaborate with other service chiefs to put an end to this. “
