The leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has been remanded in custody of DSS.

Justice Binta Nyako of the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court has on Tuesday ordered the remand of Nnamdi Kanu in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).

The remand order was given in sequel to an application by a federal government lawyer, Shuaibu Labaran.

The IPOB leader was said to have been intercepted by joint security operatives of the federal government.

Abubakar Malami, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, who made the disclosure in a joint press briefing with the Nigerian Police and DSS, said Mazi Kanu was arrested on Sunday, June 27, 2021.

Justice Nyako, Ruling on the request for remand in the custody of the Department of State Services, held that the Prosecution should inform Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer of his rearrest and remand in the custody of the DSS.

Justice Nyako further adjourned the next setting of the court till July 26 for the continuation of the trial.

Recall that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was granted bail in 2017 and subsequently jumped bail and was declared wanted by the Federal government.

Apart from jumping his bail, the federal government is also holding Mazi Kanu responsible for various acts of violence recently in the southeast.
