Not many hours after the Ogun State Police Command denied reports that 20 persons were abducted at the Kara bridge, along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, armed robbers on Wednesday ‘assumed control over’ the axis.

The criminals attacked the long bridge, causing motorists, traders and residents to run for their lives.

The robbers were said to have confiscated individuals of their phones, cash and different valuables at gunpoint.

Albeit the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, had requested 24-hour surveillance of the highway, observers said the hoodlums had a field day as there was nobody to challenge them.

“Around 5am to 6am, the armed robbers stormed the Warewa bridge, shooting. I left my bus and fled to hide. My passengers also fled. It was a very scary experience. There were no policemen to stop these thieves,” a commercial driver,” Joseph, said.

Another source, who would have rather not be mentioned, said policemen later showed up at the scene, “but that was after the assailants had left.”

Police Spokesman in Ogun, Abimbola Oyeyemi, has affirmed the occurrence, saying the robbers had gotten away by what he called a ‘slim chance’, expressing, nonetheless, that they will be apprehended.

“We are very sure they will all be apprehended within a short time,” he claimed.

Oyeyemi ordered residents to approach their day to day activities with no fear, guaranteeing that policemen are on the path of the robbers, who he guaranteed, got away from through a bushy part.
