Devotees of the Osun deity were on Friday spotted drinking from the Osun River in spite of warnings from the Osun State Government that the water had been polluted by exercises of artisan miners.
As the Osun-Osogbo festivals comes to a peak on Friday, August 12, thousands of Osun devotees and visitors had gathered on the Osun grove.
INFOXCLUSIVE reports that a large number of them were seen fetching water from the river in various containers and furthermore drinking the water while coming out of the grove.
Devotees and visitors, who had marched out to the riverside in their white clothing attires and beads, were seen singing and dancing to traditional songs.
The Osun State Commissioner for Health, Rafiu Isamotu, talking earlier with journalists, said public health authorities would be at the grove during the celebration to additionally sensitise people on the risks of drinking the water.
