As the crisis inside the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, keeps on developing, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has said the party can’t win the 2023 presidential election without his input.
Wike said he and four other governors play a significant part in PDP; thus the party can’t win elections without them.
He made the statement during a media visit in Port Harcourt, the state capital, on Friday.
Wike, Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, have been requiring the removal of Iyorchia Ayu as PDP’s National Chairman.
The governors had demanded that PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and National Chairman, Ayu can’t emerge out of the same region.
Notwithstanding, Wike said he and his team were focused on having an impact at the party.
As per the governor, PDP won some states due to his financial support.
“If I leave the party today, the PDP cannot win the election. If the five PDP governors say they are leaving today, we are not just ordinary governors, we are very committed and strong.
“There is nobody that wants to win an election and still continue the way they are doing. I have supported many states financially to win elections in the past, including Plateau, Ondo, and Cross Rivers and they cannot deny it”.
