A women’s group under the umbrella of the Queen of Peace Support Group, on Wednesday, threw its weight behind the Labour Party Gubernatorial Candidate of Ebonyi state, Arc. Dr. Edward Nkwegu in the forthcoming 2023 general elections.

Recall that the Queen of Peace was a religious title presented to the wife of the Labour Party Candidate, Lady Chief Mrs Mary Nkwegu by His Lordship Michael Nnachi Okoro, the Bishop Emeritus of the Catholic Church, Abakaliki Diocese.

The members of the Queen of Peace Support Group drawn from the 13 Local Government Areas and 171 wards in Ebonyi have announced their readiness to solicit massive votes in favor of the triumph of Arc. Nkwegu and any Labour candidates, saying “with EDON as the governor of Ebonyi in 2023, poverty will run away from the state.”

Speaking for the group, the Wife of the Ebonyi Central Senatorial Candidate of the Labour Party, Chief Mrs Anthonia Nwuruku represented by Nnenna Eze depicted Edward Nkwegu ‘EDON’ as “the only gubernatorial candidate who can eliminate poverty in Ebonyi State following his creativity and antecedents as a world distinguished industrialist and entrepreneur.”

Mrs Nwuruku mourned the alleged spate of killings, infringement on human rights, terrorizing innocent residents and other insecurity challenges confronting Ebonyi people, in any case, expressed certainty that there would be enormous change if Nkwegu emerges as the governor of the state in 2023 .

She said: “EDON is educated, he is a man of the people, whose positive impact in wealth creation has never been in doubt, he will bring fortune to our economy, education, health, agriculture, security, water, name them. We are strongly behind him to be our governor in 2023 because, with EDON, there will be massive job creation and human empowerment through industrialisation.”

Likewise speaking, the wife of the Labour Party Candidate for Afikpo South State Constituency, Mrs Nnenna Kalu Ufiem said that Dr Edward Nkwegu has shown a high feeling of transparency in the past public offices he occupied when he filled in as the Chairman of the Special Public Work Committee in the State.

Mrs Ufiem represented by Chigiozie Samuel said: “When Sir Dr Edward Nkwegu served as the Chairman of the Special Public Work Committee in Ebonyi, both the stakeholders and members of different political parties in the state were accommodated, even those who were not members of any political party equally benefitted from the programme.

“He is educated, creative, innovative, resourceful, humble, peaceful and God fearing. EDON is a man of the people and I believe, with EDON poverty will be destroyed in our state. There will be jobs, and all-inclusive governance and the rights of the Ebonyi people will not be abused. We are ready to rally around for his victory in 2023 because we are all Obidients.”

On her part, the Wife of the Labour Party Candidate for Ishielu South State Constituency, Mrs Peter Nwali lambasted Governor David Umahi’s led government for supposedly not recruiting workers and denying civil servants their welfare since assumed office.

She noted that the current administration has failed the Ebonyi residents, particularly the workers, who claimed that starting from the inception of Governor Umahi’s administration, there was no promotion of the civil servants and the retirees had been facing many difficulties as their entitlements have been denied them.

Mrs Nwali represented by Mrs Jacinta Nwite commended the members of the Labour Party for having given the party’s gubernatorial ticket to Edward Nkwegu whom she depicted as a man of character, a lover of peace and a wealth creator to come and change Ebonyi State come 2023.

Responding, the Wife of the gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party in Ebonyi State, Lady Chief Mrs Mary Nkwegu complimented the members of the group for having thrown their weight behind her husband.

She expressed her readiness to work with her group to energize for the triumph of the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, her husband, Arc Edward Nkwegu and any remaining candidates of the party in 2023.

Lady Nkwegu portrayed her husband as a prestigious industrialist, with a persistent enthusiasm to touch lives through wealth creation, and a ceaseless spirit to promote peace and unity among people.

She, in this manner, encouraged the Ebonyi people to support her husband to arise as the governor of the state in 2023, saying that “my husband, Arc Dr Edward Nkwegu will change the ugly narratives of Ebonyi people. He will give hope to the hopeless, and foster peace and harmony in Ebonyi communities, and there will be no discrimination against Ebonyi residents because his administration will be all-inclusive for the benefit of the citizens of this state.”
