Thierry Henry, a former Barcelona striker, has provided an explanation for why Lionel Messi performs better for Argentina than for Paris Saint-Germain.

Messi, who with Albiceleste won the 2022 FIFA World Cup in December, has come under heavy criticism from PSG supporters, especially this season due to the club’s poor performance.

Overall, his two years at PSG have not exactly gone as he had hoped, especially with the recent criticism he continues receiving from the club’s supporters.

The 35-year-old was also recently mocked by his own supporters during their recent 1-0 loss to Lyon in the French Ligue 1. His contract with PSG expires at the conclusion of the current campaign.

Despite helping PSG win all of their games this season with 18 goals and 17 assists, Messi’s work doesn’t seem to be given enough credit.

Henry, however, thinks Messi performs better for Argentina because he is the team’s leader, as opposed to PSG where it is the other way around.

“It is not easy to lead the orchestra with three conductors. In Argentina, he is the boss,” Henry tells RMC Sport.

“You see how the players look at him. They could die for him. When Leo feels that, he is unplayable. Here [PSG], it is different.”
