If he wins the election, Comrade Marcelo Nwaji Anyigor, the All Progressives Congress candidate for the Ebonyi South Senatorial seat, has stated that he intends to sponsor a bill that would assist in removing the obstacles impeding the advancement of women in Nigeria.

Anyigor, the Southeast Director of the Asiwaju Grassroots Foundation’s AGF Project Beyond 2023, made this statement in an interview with reporters regarding his intentions for women should he be elected to the 10th Senate and represent the Ebonyi South Senatorial District.

The senatorial candidate revealed that he was aware at an early age of the critical roles that women play in influencing and molding the lives of the next generation of leaders in every community.

He said: “I recognize the great influence of my mother on my life which made me turn out as a successful businessman and exemplary leader of note.

“Against this background, if elected as Senator representing Ebonyi South Senatorial District in the 10th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I intend to collaborate with additional lawmakers especially female legislators and the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs in removing the barriers militating against women’s development in this male-dominated society, by particularly engaging the relevant programmes aimed at achieving improved women livelihood, widows welfare, equal opportunity in politics and job as well as the promotion of economic empowerment for women entrepreneurs in the country.

“This will not only put the South Southeast stead to realize their potential and contribute meaningfully to nation-building but would create an egalitarian society, bereft of discrimination based on gender.

“It will also reduce the lingering phenomenon of male chauvinism that has been ravaging the entire African nation and suppressing the voices of our women adults and the girl-child.”
